What’s buzzing this week? Let Steve Kemble, US Weekly Fashion Police Top Cop and America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru, fill you in on the news everyone’s going to be talking about:
Special Golden Globes Edition
“La La Land” and “Moonlight” took home the top honors at the 74th annual Golden Globes hosted by Jimmy Fallon. “La La Land” had a clean sweep winning all seven of the categories it was nominated in, setting a new record for Globe wins! Previous record holders included “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Midnight Express” each had six wins. The sweep put’s “La La Land” as the front-runner for the Oscar’s! The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24th, and the ceremony will take place February 26th in Los Angeles.
There were definitely some fashion hits and misses on the Red Carpet. My Best Dressed included Emma Stone in Valentino (the dress fit the movie she was nominated and I loved the delicate flow of the gown as she went up to receive her award), Lily Collins in Elie Saab (I bet her father Phil could write a beautiful song about this dress!) and Evan Rachel Wood in custom Altuzara (she looked better in her Marlene Dietrich inspired tux than 75% of the men at the Globes!). I always hate to give the Worst Dressed honors, but as they say…someone has too! Those honors this year go to Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen (our first fashion victim of 2017), Kerry Washington in Dolce & Gabbana (what a “Scandal”!) and Sophie Turner in Louis Vuitton (her dress literally made my head hurt!).
The most popular items at the Golden Globes this year were the vending machines! You read that right! One vending machine dispensed free mini bottles of Moet champagne, while another sponsored by U.K. company Rollasole dispensed free flats! The flats came in rolls with lipstick and a tote for your heels! #genius
Brad Pitt made a surprise appearance at the ceremony! As he came on stage to introduce the film and eventual winner Moonlight (he is one of the Producers) the audience gave him a very loud and huge standing ovation…if Angelina was in LA she could have very well heard the thunderous applause!
Jenna Bush Hager, the former First Daughter was a special correspondent for The Today Show on the red carpet and made a gaffe for which she apologized for on Monday’s show. She was interviewing Pharrell Williams and said, “so you are nominated for Hidden Fences”. Pharrell’s song was nominated for “Hidden Figures”e. She said Monday this was not intentional and she was sorry if she offended anyone. Presenter Michael Keaton actually made the same mistake on stage during the live broadcast.
