The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced nominees for the Oscar’s this week! “La La Land” leads the nominations with 14 and could possibly break the record of 11 wins set by “Ben-Hur”, “Titanic” and “Lord of the Rings: Return of the King”. “La La Land” stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone both of whom received acting nods as well.
Best Supporting Actress Nominee Michelle Williams for “Manchester by the Sea” admits she has not even seen the movie for which she is nominated in its entirety!
Snubs are always a part of the nominations and probably two of the biggest snubs are Amy Adam’s in the Best Actress Category for “Arrival” and Tom Hanks did not receive a Best Actor nomination for “Sully”. They were snubbed but ABC did inadvertently list them as nominees on their site. They caught the mistake quickly, removed it and apologized for the error. One person who was not snubbed was Meryl Streep who received her 20th Oscar nomination for Best Actress in “Florence Foster Jenkins”.
One thing is for sure at this year’s Oscar’s ceremony, which will be broadcast live on ABC, February 26th hosted by Jimmy Kimmel is that we are going to hear some great music! The nominees include “La La Land” (two nominations), Sting (his fourth nomination) and J. Ralph for “The Empty Chair” featured in the movie “Jim: The James Foley Story”, Justin Timberlake for “Can’t Stop the Feeling” from the movie “Trolls” and the Hamilton creator Lin-Manual Miranda for the song “How Far I’ll Go” from the movie “Moana”. If Miranda wins he will have achieved the prestigious EGOT status by winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony!
Speaking of movies, the official “Baywatch” posters for the movie based on the 90’s TV Show have been released! The movie hits theaters on May 26, 2017, and features cameos by two of the stars of the TV show, David Hasselhoff, and Pamela Anderson.
