What’s buzzing this week? Let Steve Kemble, US Weekly Fashion Police Top Cop and America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru, fill you in on the news everyone’s going to be talking about:
The 59th annual Grammy Awards were presented Sunday night live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, hosted by James Corden. The show opened with Adele, singing a poignant rendition of “Hello”. She later went on to win five Grammy’s (a clean sweep of all categories she was nominated in). Adele’s sweep marks the first time a nominee has swept the top three categories (Best Song, Best Record, Album of the Year) twice (she won all top three five years ago as well). When she won Album of the Year for “25” she gave a tearful acceptance speech to her idol Beyoncé, and then actually broke the trophy in half and gave Beyoncé half of it! So if we are going to be technical, due to this incident, through her career Adele has won 14 ½ Grammy’s, not 15! LOL! Adele also had a start over, if you will when she had difficulties at the start of her tribute to the late George Michael. She apologized to the audience (about a “naughty bit” of profanity…Ooops!), and went on to sing a beautiful tribute!
The show also saw Katy Perry make a comeback to the music scene with platinum blond hair (this is possibly the only color left she has not dyed her hair!) singing her new song “Chained to the Rhythm” and Bruno Mars did an amazing tribute to the late Prince. Chance the Rapper had his Grammy’s coronation winning the Best Rap category and Best New Artist Awards. James Hetfield the lead singer of Metallica had mic problems as he and the band along with Lady Gaga rocked out on a stage full of fire to their hit “Moth Into Flames”. My sources are telling me a stagehand accidentally unplugged a wire before the performance started. At the end of the performance, Hetfield kicked his mic stand over, and smashed his guitar on stage…in anger, not for performance value!
Grammy’s weekend always kicks off with Clive Davis’ annual Pre-Grammy Gala held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Turning heads at the party were legend Joni Mitchell who made a rare public appearance. Mary J. Blige brought the house down with her performance of her hit “No More Drama”. Following that up a white-gowned Jennifer Hudson received a Standing O for her powerful performance of the late Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. Spotted in the crowd was Chance the Rapper (who also performed and brought his mother as his date), Lena Dunham, Wiz Khalifa and his ex-Amber Rose, Kris Jenner, LL Cool J, Britney Spears, Lorde, The Chainsmoker’s, John Legend, Michael Keaton and more!
At Sunday’s Grammys, a man and a transgender woman joined the so-called trophy girls who brought the awards on stage. It’s a change that makes the Grammys a leader in diversity at awards shows.
And on a final note, YES! It is true that Selena Gomez and The Weeknd were spotted leaving Rhianna’s private Grammy After Party at 1 OAK in West Hollywood! Personally, I was hoping they would walk the Red Carpet together!
